Short biography

Dr Elena Carrara is a Senior Researcher at the University of Verona and she works as an Infectious Diseases consultant at the University Hospital of Verona. She is one of the supervisors of the SAVE project (Stewardship Antibiotica Verona) aimed at optimizing the use of antibiotics within the hospital.

Her main research interests are antibiotic stewardship, antibiotic resistance, management and prevention of hospital acquired infections, evidence-based medicine and research methodology.
She holds a PhD in Applied Life and Health Sciences and she recently completed the 2-year Certificate for Infection Prevention and Control organized by EUCIC (European Committee on Infection Prevention and Control). She is a Fellow of the European Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology and she acted as a panel member in several ESCMID guidelines.

She contributed to the development of the first WHO priority list for Research and Development of new antibiotics and she coordinated the the scientific work behind the AIFA-Opera guidelines for the treatment of multi-drug-resistant infections. She is currently involved in the update of the WHO pathogen priority list and in the coordination of Antibiotic Stewardship activities within the REVERSE project.
