Multidisciplinary Centre for Sexually Transmitted Infections

MISTRA

MISTRA (Centro Multidisciplinare per le Infezioni Sessualmente TRAsmesse) is the Multidisciplinary Centre for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) within the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Unit of the Integrated University Hospital of Verona.

The MISTRA Centre has its roots in numerous research projects in the field of rapid HIV/STI diagnostics, which have guided the optimisation of the clinical service previously offered, leading to the creation of this multidisciplinary centre.

MISTRA has both a clinical and research vocation, believing that these two aspects are closely linked, to the point that there can be no improvement in clinical practice without the innovation and improvement brought about by research, and that research must necessarily be influenced by the needs and unresolved issues emerging from clinical practice.

The service, aimed at all people with an active sexual life, offers personalised care based on each individual's sexual behaviour as all sexually active individuals are at risk for STIs, but not always in the same way or for the same reasons.

The care offered comprehensively covers STIs from a variety of perspectives: preventive, diagnostic (rapid or standard), and therapeutic. The STIs considered by the team include: HIV, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Condyloma, Genital Herpes, Bacterial Vaginosis, and Mpox (formerly monkeypox).

The MISTRA Centre offers numerous services, detailed on their website, which are free for the majority of individuals.
