Last week the ID-CARE Team in Verona hosted the annual meetings of the European projects MPX-RESPONSE and EU-RESPONSE at the historic Palazzo Verità Poeta. The event brought together a wide range of professionals involved in both projects, including clinicians, biologists, researchers, and biostatisticians, as well as other stakeholders from across Europe, to discuss responses to global health emergencies.

Two projects, both alike in impact, In fair Verona, where we lay our scene.
MPX-RESPONSE
A clinical research network to improve the management of Monkeypox virus disease
The first day was fully dedicated to the MPX-RESPONSE project, which aims to strengthen the ability of the European Union and the international community to respond to public health emergencies, especially the potential re-emergence of the mpox epidemic.
Several ongoing studies were presented and discussed during the meeting:
WP2 – MOSAIC (Multi-country cohort study of mpox virus disease)
WP3 – EPOXI (The European randomised clinical trial in mPOX Infection)
WP4 – UNITY (Operational support for the International UNITY trial)
WP4 – MOSA (MpOx Study in Africa)
This meeting provided a key opportunity to assess study progress, share preliminary results, and plan future research directions.
EU-RESPONSE
European Research and Preparedness Network for Pandemics and Emerging Infectious Diseases
On the afternoon of May 6, the EU-Response annual meeting began. This project is funded for five years under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Its goal is to develop a flexible, multinational European network for clinical trials on COVID-19 and other emerging infectious diseases.
The first day included two closed-door workshops:
The first was a workshop on methodology and clinical trial statistics, attended by the ID-CARE Team Members.
The second, the VIRvOLT workshop (VIRology Operational Laboratories for drug Testing), was aimed at network partners and focused on standardising laboratory techniques to improve data quality and coordination.
On the final day, updates were presented on several major European clinical research projects: EU-SolidAct, Discovery, RECOVERY, and OptiCOV. Among the invited online guests was Professor Ilaria Capua, who joined the discussion with a talk titled: "The incredible transformation of Avian Influenza over the past 25 years".
The meeting provided valuable insights and reinforced the importance of international collaboration in the fight against emerging infectious diseases.
