International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, observed on December 27, highlights the urgent need to invest in systems that can prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease outbreaks.

Here at ID-CARE we are involved in multiple projects supporting different aspects of preparedness; we’ve provided a brief overview below so you can learn more.
The Cohort Coordination Board and CoMeCT projects focus on aligning research across Europe for stronger preparedness. We are also working on multiple projects aiming to learn from the COVID-19 pandemic: ORCHESTRA, VERDI and EU-RESPONSE. The REVERSE, SAVE and EPI-Net projects focus on the global issue of antimicrobial resistance, vital for ensuring antimicrobials can be used in a future potential pandemic.
Two new projects from this year included the PROACT-EU Response project, which aims to strengthen Europe’s preparedness for future pandemics creating an adaptive clinical trial network, and the PIPELINE project, which is developing and implementing a world-class, multi-country adaptive clinical trials platform to support research on novel diagnostics, vaccines, and therapies for infectious diseases in pregnancy and infancy.
Finally, 2026 will kick off with a brand-new project “Be Ready Now - A European research and innovation Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness” which aims to strengthen the European Union’s (EU) capacity to prevent and respond to infectious disease threats.
