Earlier this week the 2026 edition of the Ecraid Foundation Science Meeting was held in Utrecht, Netherlands, with more than 140 delegates from 18 countries across academia, industry and the public sector.

As well as hosting the General Assembly of each of Ecraid’s projects (ECRAID-Prime, ECRAID-Base and Ecraid Clinical Liaison), this event gathered experts from across and outside Europe to deliver keynote lectures and presentations about acute respiratory infections, bacterial infections and antimicrobial resistance, epidemiology, and research priorities in intensive care units.
This year’s Ecraid Foundation Science Meeting was particularly engaging, as it was designed to interpret the results of Ecraid’s activities – in place since 2021 and envisioning the collection and analysis of incredibly heterogeneous data (from patient-level to Europe-wide) – into the currently changing epidemiological and political landscape. Moreover, this meeting also represented a carrefour of ideas towards sustainability of the currently ongoing observational studies in the near future, and towards the creation of an unprecedented multidisciplinary network.

During the epidemiology and data session, on behalf of the EPI-Net team within the ECRAID-Base project (Work Package 9C), Prof. Evelina Tacconelli presented the latest updates in EPI-Net’s research activity. In particular, the results of the recently published study on emerging resistance to new antibiotics were presented in relation to the possible applications in clinical guidelines and to the current status of surveillance across Europe.
