Earlier today, ID-CARE Director, Professor Evelina Tacconelli, participated as a panellist at the sixth edition of the European Commission's Research and Innovation Days, which were held in Brussels on September 16 and 17.

This year's edition, "Together, towards a Research and Innovation Union," comes at a crucial time in the discussions on the next long-term EU budget and key policy actions such as the European Life Sciences Strategy. The event brought together policymakers, researchers, and business leaders to discuss how research and innovation drive Europe's competitiveness, sustainability, and industrial leadership, supporting EU priorities.
Prof. Tacconelli was a panellist in the session "Strengthening the EU clinical research ecosystem", on 17 September at 10:00am, in the Silver Hall. The session aimed to facilitate a truly interactive dialogue within the panel regarding the current state of the European clinical research ecosystem. It focused specifically on how to support and enhance the clinical research ecosystem and the ongoing efforts from the European Commission, such as launching specific partnerships, funding projects, and developing research infrastructures through the Horizon Europe programme.

Prof. Tacconelli discussed in particular the importance of international collaboration, sustainable investment in clinical research infrastructures and the inclusion of vulnerable groups. She also raised the importance of educating not only the scientific community but the European community in general about the importance of research for pandemic preparedness.
