High rate of pulmonary thromboembolism in patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia

Recently, thromboembolic events have been reported in 20 of 81 individuals with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) severe pneumonia admitted to intensive care units. About 90% of patients showed an increased coagulation activity, including high D-dimer concentrations, which demonstrated 85% sensitivity and 89% specificity for identifying groups at high risk for thromboembolic events.
