On Tuesday, 15th of October, ID-CARE Director, Evelina Tacconelli, attended a roundtable discussion on the topic of "Standards of care: building consensus around the study and diagnosis of long Covid" organised by Economist Impact in Berlin, Germany. It was attended by 12 participants from all over the world.
This roundtable discussion encompassed the topics of Long COVID case studies, successes and opportunities from across the global health community. As well as to help build consensus around defining, studying and diagnosing the condition to benefit local, regional and international communities.
The roundtable discussion was comprised of three sections: Universal Long COVID definition, Improving datasets and implementing emerging technologies, Public-private collaboration and investment.
The main questions leading the discussion were:
● What variations exist in how long COVID is defined?
● How are these differences impacting the study and diagnosis of the condition?
● How can the size and quality of datasets be improved to facilitate more wide-ranging studies?
● What barriers exist to reaching a consensus around a universal definition and diagnosis guidelines?
● How can policymakers and healthcare professionals work together to overcome these barriers and raise the standard of care at regional and global levels
