ORCHESTRA, a project coordinated by the ID-CARE team at the University of Verona, was recently granted a no-cost extension to continue its work for an additional year.
The epidemiological scenario of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has changed repeatedly throughout the course of the ORCHESTRA project, particularly with regards to the availability of vaccines and therapies, and new scientific evidence raising new clinical challenges and research questions.
This additional 12 months allows cohorts' studies to extend follow-up of enrolled patients to 24-month from SARS-CoV-2 infection diagnosis, and continue with the collection of clinical and epidemiological data and biobanking, increasing the accuracy of the already developed new definition of post-COVID-19 syndrome (PCS), and producing new evidence for severe PCS and related immunological, virological, and genetic predisposing factors.
As a result of this extension, the project duration is altered from 36 months to 48 months, with the new end date of ORCHESTRA as 30 November 2024.
